The white horse is considered to be the conveyance of goddess
Taleju Bhawani. The white horse festival kicks off with the completion
of religious sacraments by the four head priests of the Taleju Temple
according to the Tantrik rituals.
A sheep was offered as sacrifice before the white horse was taken in a procession around the ancient town.
The white horse procession begins from the Taleju Bhawani Temple
courtyard and concludes at the same spot after completing the procession
march around the town. The horse is made to run three times in front of
the local Pashupatinath Temple. A horse dance is also performed on the
occasion.
According to culture experts, the white horse festival has special significance as it is a unique procession that is held in Bhaktapur on the occasion of Bada Dashain festival.
